Work Colleges Fall Conference is held annually and brings together staff and selected students for three days of professional development and networking. Fall Conference 2013 is being hosted by Alice Lloyd College in Pippa Passes, KY in November.
This past November 2012, students and Work Deans from each of our seven colleges spent four days in Washington, D.C. for the annual WCC Fall Leadership Conference. Students had the opportunity to meet with members of Congress, legislative staff and tour the Capitol, Smithsonian museums, monuments, and a White House tour. They gained valuable insights into the legislative process and shared their college experiences integrating work, learning, and service.
An important part of all WCC Fall Conferences is service participation. This year, the students and Work Directors volunteered at the Capital Area Food Bank one of the largest of its kind feeding over 475,000 people and distributing more than 33 million pounds of food annually. Staying true to form and to the amazement of the staff, the group was scheduled to work for a half day but completed all assigned tasks well ahead of time. Proving that Work College students know how to work, how to perform as a team, take on responsibility and deliver!
The 2011 Annual Fall Conference "Leaders and Ethics in the Workplace" was held at Ecclesia College. The educational portion of the event included a session on leadership presented by Dr. Steve Henderson, followed by a panel discussion. Attendees enjoyed the opportunity to meet one another and share information about their work programs. By all accounts, the highlight of the Fall Conference was the service project in which the group volunteered as buddies for the Miracle League, which conducts baseball games for children with disabilities.
